What it does
Two jobs that look unrelated and are not. Sneezing and coughing clear an obstruction; hunger and thirst signal a lack. Both are the body demanding something be corrected, and the classical lists put them together for that reason.
Some sources drop hunger from krikara and hand it elsewhere, which is the usual level of variation in these lists.
Sneezing gets particular attention in the commentaries because it clears the sinus and respiratory channels in the region udana occupies. A blocked head is treated as a practical obstacle to concentration, not only a discomfort.
Why it matters in practice
Practitioners meet krikara most often as an interruption: the cough that arrives ten minutes into sitting, the hunger that arrives at minute twelve. The classical advice is to note which of the two it is, since one is the body clearing itself and the other is the mind looking for an exit.
