Hexagram 46 is wood growing up through the ground. The Judgment is unusually reassuring: the source, it gets through, one must see the great person, do not fear. Setting out to the south, the bright direction, brings good fortune. The Image is the clearest statement of incrementalism in the book: the noble person, devoted in character, heaps up small things to reach something high and great. This week the ascent is available and it is gradual. Whatever you are trying to reach, the route this week is to add small things to small things, every day, without stopping to measure the height. The wood does not check how far it has come. It grows. The hexagram removes the fear explicitly, which it rarely bothers to do. The great person you must see is not an obstacle. Go and see them.

You will ask whether the ascent is the right one before you start it. It is. This week the Judgment removes the fear and the question. Add the small things and let the direction be south.

விருச்சிகம்

You push upward in private and reveal the height at the end. Fine. This week the addition is the great person: someone must be seen on the way, and unseen ascents stall at the ceiling.

தனுசு

You will try to get through the ground in a day. Wood takes the week. Set out south, keep going, and accept that gradual is the only way this one is climbed.

மகரம்

Your hexagram, in method and in patience. Devoted in character, heaping up small things: that is your year and this week is its example. The addition is to go and see the great person now rather than at the top.

கும்பம்

You will set out in every direction and call it progress. Set out south. This week the ascent is one direction and daily additions, and the covering of ground is not the same as climbing.

ஆடு

You will wait for someone to lift you. Wood lifts itself, slowly, through the ground. This week add your own small things and go to see the great person on your own account.

குரங்கு

You will find a cleverer way up and it will not be the way up. This week heap the small things like everybody else. The height is built out of quantity and the shortcut is a detour.

சேவல்

You will inspect each small thing before adding it. Add first, inspect at the weekend. This week the accumulation matters more than the quality of any single piece.
