Named for Varuna, the Vedic god of waters and of oaths. It spreads between the other channels through the lower abdomen and is associated with the fluids the body lets go of.

Where it runs
Varuni is described as spread rather than linear, filling the lower abdomen between yashasvini and kuhu. Where most of the fourteen are given a start and an end, this one is given a region.
That suits its associations. Water takes the shape of what holds it, and the channel named for the god of waters is the one without a clean line.
Some tables drop the regional description entirely and call varuni pervasive, flowing everywhere and carrying systemic hydration and subtle waste. That reading makes it the nadi counterpart of vyana among the winds.
The name
Varuna in the Rig Veda governs the waters and, more importantly, oaths and cosmic order. The later tradition narrowed him to the sea. The nadi keeps only the water sense, which is a reasonable summary of what happened to Varuna generally.
