Raidho is riding: motion with a route, and a rhythm somebody has to keep. This week is a journey rather than a destination, and the rune is precise about the difference. What matters is the pace you can sustain rather than the distance covered on the first day. Somebody is doing the actual riding, and if that is you then the horse's condition is your responsibility too. Set the rhythm early and hold it. A week travelled steadily arrives; a week ridden hard arrives lame.

Þurs is a giant: a hostile power outside the settlement that does not negotiate and cannot be reasoned with. Something this week is simply not available for discussion, whether that is an institution, a deadline or a person who has decided. The rune is old and practical about this. You do not argue with weather and you do not go out to meet a giant on open ground. Secure what is yours, keep inside the boundary, and let the thing pass rather than testing whether it might turn out to be reasonable after all.

Rad is riding, and the poem draws the distinction precisely: it seems easy to a man sitting indoors and very hard to him who rides the long road on a strong horse. This week is the difference between talking about the road and being on it. Something moves from planning into execution, and the execution will cost more than the plan suggested. That is not a sign the plan was wrong. Set out anyway, keep the pace honest, and stop describing the journey to people who are still indoors.

Ruis is redness: what the body says before the person does. This week something shows before it is admitted, whether that is your own reaction or somebody else's. The kennings tie it to the flush of shame and of anger without separating them, which is accurate. Watch for the signal rather than the statement. The useful conversation this week is the one that begins with noticing the colour rise, in yourself first, and asking what it is doing there before it turns into a position that has to be defended.
