Sun in fall ☉ ♎

Sun in Libra

The Sun in Libra is the Sun in its fall, opposite its exaltation in Aries, so the planet of identity finds itself through other people. People born with it, roughly from 23 September to 22 October, know who they are through relationships, fairness and a sense of beauty and balance. They are diplomatic, sociable and quick to see every side. Their task is learning to choose, and to stand by a choice, without waiting for agreement.

A self that knows itself in the mirror of another person, and shines by bringing two sides into balance.

The Sun in fall in Venus's sign of cardinal air

Libra is the Sun's fall, the sign opposite its exaltation, with the depth traditionally at 19°. The sign belongs to Venus, and Saturn is exalted here, two planets that ask the Sun to share and to follow rules. The Sun holds no triplicity in air, so in Libra its only essential condition is the fall, and its fortunes rest on Venus as dispositor.

The image is seasonal. The Sun enters Libra at the autumn equinox, when in the north the nights begin to outlast the days, and the tradition read the light as yielding. Fall does not describe a weak person. It describes a Sun that cannot rely on self-assertion and must find its identity through relationship, agreement and fairness. Cardinal air gives initiative, but the initiative is social: starting conversations, building partnerships, setting terms. Many Libra Suns become skilled mediators precisely because they feel other people's views as strongly as their own.

The temperament of a Libra Sun

You see both sides of almost everything, and you notice imbalance quickly, whether it is a room that feels off or a decision that is unfair. You are polite, easy to talk to and good at making people feel at ease. Beauty matters to you, in surroundings, clothes and manners, and ugliness or rudeness can upset you more than others expect.

Choosing is harder. You can weigh options for a long time, and you may say yes to keep the peace and regret it later. The habit worth building is noticing your own preference first, before you check what everyone else wants, and saying it out loud.

Sun in Libra in love

Partnership is where a Libra Sun grows most, and love often feels central to your sense of self. You are drawn to people with grace, intelligence and good manners, and you court with charm, attention and shared pleasures. You prefer harmony and may work hard to keep it.

What you need is fairness, conversation and a partner who meets you halfway. Coldness and crude conflict unsettle you. The growth edge is keeping your own shape inside a relationship: voicing disagreement early and being alone without feeling unfinished. Aries, the opposite sign and the Sun's exaltation, often attracts you, because its directness shows you the self-assertion you are learning. Air and fire Suns usually share your social ease; earth and water Suns can offer steadiness if you both talk openly.

Family, friends and the father figure

Friends value you as the peacemaker and the one who brings people together. In families you may have grown up as the mediator, sensitive to tension and quick to smooth it over. The Sun signifies the father in tradition, and with the Sun in fall a father may have been gentle, absent, or overshadowed by the other parent, or a figure whose authority depended on the partnership. Parents with this Sun tend to be fair and reasonable; the stretch is setting firm limits even when a child is unhappy with them.

Sun in Libra at work

You work best with other people and with a sense that things are being done justly. You are good at negotiation, client relations, design and anything that needs balance between competing interests. Harsh, competitive cultures drain you. Libra Suns often gravitate toward law and mediation, diplomacy, human resources, design and fashion, the arts, counselling, public relations and partnership businesses. A Libra Sun often does well in a strong duo, where a partner handles the decisions it finds hardest.

Money, taste and partnership

You tend to spend on beauty and on shared experiences: good design, gifts, an evening out. Money often comes through partnerships, collaboration or client work, and joint finances may matter more in your life than in others'. The trap is overspending to keep things pleasant or avoiding difficult money conversations with a partner. A useful habit is a regular, calm money talk, scheduled before any problem appears.

The kidneys, the lower back and balance

Medical astrology gives Libra the kidneys and lower back, while the Sun rules the heart and general vitality. The tradition reads Libra Sun stress as a matter of imbalance, with too much accommodation and too little rest, and tension that settles in the lower back. Moderation suits you better than extremes. Gentle exercise, plenty of water, beautiful surroundings and evenings free of social obligation help restore you. These correspondences come from a symbolic tradition and complement professional care, never replace it.

When balance becomes self-erasure

The shadow of the Libra Sun is a self that disappears into other people's wishes. It can show up as chronic indecision, people-pleasing, passive resistance, or a polished surface that hides anger. Some Libra Suns go to the opposite extreme and argue every point for the sake of fairness, unable to let a matter rest.

The mature Libra Sun keeps its grace and gains a spine. It learns that a fair decision sometimes disappoints someone, that peace bought with silence does not last, and that its own view counts as one of the sides.

Sun in Libra in classical and Vedic astrology

Classical astrology makes Libra Venus's day house and Saturn's exaltation, at 21°, with Mars in detriment and the Sun in fall, deepest at 19°. Hellenistic authors saw the logic in the seasons: the planet of light falls where the light declines, and Saturn, the planet of time and limits, rises. The air triplicity belongs to Saturn by day and Mercury by night, with Jupiter participating, so the Sun has no triplicity here and no face. The Sun rules no terms; the term lords are Saturn at 0°–6°, Mercury at 6°–14°, Jupiter at 14°–21°, Venus at 21°–28° and Mars at 28°–30°. Medieval authors looked to reception with Venus to ease the fall.

In the sidereal zodiac, placements fall about 24° earlier, so most tropical Libra Suns are sidereal Virgo (Kanya). Only the last six degrees or so reach Tula, where Vedic astrology counts Surya as debilitated, deepest at 10°.

Working with the Sun in Libra

Before asking others, write down what you want. Practise small, clear decisions daily: the meal, the route, the film. When you agree to something, check that you mean it. Spend some time alone each week and notice who you are without company. Use your sense of beauty in a creative practice. In the Golden Dawn tarot the Sun is The Sun and Libra is Justice, the figure holding scales and a sword, and the sword is this Sun's lesson: balance needs the courage to decide.

By decan

First Decan of Libra (0°–10°)

At 0°–10° Libra the face belongs to the Moon in the Chaldean order and to Libra, Venus's sign, in the triplicity order. Saturn rules the first six degrees as term lord. The card is the Two of Swords, Lord of Peace Restored, a blindfolded figure holding two crossed swords. A Sun here keeps a careful truce and is sensitive to every shift in mood. Agrippa's image of a man reading a book beside an angry piper was read as defending the weak against the powerful.

Second Decan of Libra (10°–20°)

The middle face, 10°–20° Libra, belongs to Saturn in both orders: Chaldean Saturn and Aquarius by triplicity, Saturn's sign and Uranus's in modern charts. It contains the Sun's fall degree, 19°, and lies just before Saturn's exaltation at 21°. The card is the Three of Swords, Lord of Sorrow, a heart pierced by three blades. A Sun here learns through the weight of commitments and the pain of honest endings, and gains clarity from them. Agrippa linked the face with anger at wrongdoing and the search for a secure, quiet life.

Third Decan of Libra (20°–30°)

The last face, 20°–30° Libra, belongs to Jupiter in the Chaldean order and to Gemini, Mercury's sign, in the triplicity order. The card is the Four of Swords, Lord of Rest from Strife, a knight lying in stillness in a chapel. A Sun here restores balance by stepping back, resting and thinking before it acts. Jupiter brings generosity and perspective, Mercury a talent for words. Venus rules the terms at 21°–28°, adding charm, and Mars's terms in the last two degrees sharpen the edge before Scorpio.
