Lǫgr is water: force in motion answering to its own gradient. October runs on a current you did not set and cannot redirect. The rune is not warning you off the crossing, it is telling you to read the water first. Where is it actually going, how fast, and where does it become shallow enough to stand. Somebody who understands the gradient crosses safely in a place that looks worse than the one that drowns people. Take the month's flow as given and spend your effort on the route rather than on the river. A crossing chosen well in rough water beats a crossing chosen badly in calm, and the month will offer you both.
