Strength and Judgment
A woman holds a red lion's jaws without force while an angel's trumpet wakes the dead below. The pair is about having the steadiness to answer when a decisive moment arrives.
How the two cards meet
Judgment sounds the call and Strength decides how it is answered. Gabriel's trumpet, hung with a white flag and a red cross, lifts grey figures out of coffins floating on water; in the other card a woman in white rests her bare hands on a lion's jaws, a garland of roses tying her to the beast. Judgment usually leads, because it names the moment: a reckoning with the past, a second chance, a decision with long-term consequences. Strength describes the temperament that meets it, patient and self-possessed, or, reversed, frightened and quick to flare.
Both are Fire cards, so they strengthen each other. Eight and twenty make twenty-eight, which reduces to ten and puts Wheel of Fortune beneath them as the quintessence: the awakening arrives as a turn of the cycle, and the querent's composure decides what they make of the turn.
Combinations are common patterns, not rules
The readings here describe how a pair most often reads. Check each one against two things before you apply it. The first is the question: the same pair says one thing about a relationship and another about a job offer, and the question decides which side of the pair matters. The second is the background, meaning what the querent already knows about the situation, the position each card holds in the spread, and the cards around the pair. When the question or the background points another way, go with them over the general reading. Each pair page lists the exceptions that come up most often.
Four ways the pair can fall
Both upright
Outlook: Harmonious Yes or no: YesA calling arrives, met with enough composure to answer it without flinching.
The trumpet has sounded, and nobody here needs to be dragged out of the coffin. Judgment brings awakening, an honest review of the past and the move into a new stage of life; Strength supplies the self-control and courage that turn that review into a decision instead of a crisis. The reckoning goes well because the querent can look at old mistakes without self-punishment and choose with a clear head. A couple may get a second chance or finally clear an old quarrel, and Strength keeps the talk gentle enough that the deepest feelings can surface without a fight. Someone single sees a past pattern for what it was. Work brings a step up: recognition for effort already made, a move to a new professional level, and the steadiness to lead once it comes. With money, a just reward for past work can land, and Strength's firm grip keeps it from being spent as fast as it arrived.
Advice
Take the decision you have been circling, state it to the person it affects, and own the part of the past that led to it.
Strength upright, Judgment reversed
Outlook: Mixed Yes or no: Not yetThe inner strength is there, but the decision keeps being postponed out of fear of the past.
She has the lion in hand and still will not stand up when called. Upright Strength gives resilience, patience and calm; reversed Judgment brings procrastination, guilt and a refusal to close old wounds, so the querent copes well with the present while avoiding the one reckoning that would free them. Endurance becomes a way of putting up with a dead end. In a relationship, the querent may be the steady, supportive partner in a bond dragged out too long, tolerating what should be talked through, and Judgment reversed warns that avoiding the conflict only makes it worse. At work, composure under pressure is real, but a final decision is premature: information is unverified, or a move to a new post needs a stronger plan. Money held steadily can still sit idle while a postponed payment or ruling stays stuck. The courage Strength offers is the courage to forgive and decide.
Advice
Name the old grievance you keep carrying, and set a date this month to either settle it or let it go.
Strength reversed, Judgment upright
Outlook: Mixed Yes or no: Not yetA wake-up call comes while nerves or temper are frayed, and it asks for control first.
Judgment's trumpet sounds while the lion is no longer quiet under her hands. The call is real, a decisive moment, a chance to rethink the past, a new direction at work or in love. Reversed Strength meets it with self-doubt, burnout or anger, and the danger is reacting to the moment instead of answering it, lashing out at the person who forced the issue or deciding the querent is not up to the change. For a couple, a second chance or a confession comes at a point when one partner feels powerless, and the conversation can turn into a struggle for power. At work, a promotion or a new project is offered to someone running on accumulated stress, who may doubt they can take it. Reversed Strength counsels rest and outside support before the big step, and Judgment's honest self-assessment comes easier once the querent has recovered. A just reward with money can be lost to impulse spending.
Advice
Before answering the offer or the confrontation, sleep on it for two nights and talk it through with someone who knows your track record.
Both reversed
Outlook: Challenging Yes or no: NoOld guilt and lost self-control feed each other, and the same mistake repeats.
Two Fire cards turned over burn inward. Reversed Judgment is the refusal to learn from the past, a fixation on old mistakes and a fear of being judged; reversed Strength is insecurity and emotion that slips out of hand. Together they describe a loop: the querent feels guilty, the guilt turns to irritability or aggression, and the outburst becomes a new thing to feel guilty about. In love, unresolved grievances keep surfacing as arguments, and neither person admits their share, so the relationship circles a dead end. Someone single may judge themselves so harshly after a breakup that they avoid meeting anyone. Work stalls through delayed decisions, a sense of unfair treatment and confidence that has worn thin. Hesitation and rash spending can trade places with money, and an expected payment may be postponed. Reversed Strength suggests professional help to rebuild self-respect, and that is also a place where Judgment's call to forgive old mistakes can begin.
Advice
Choose one recurring argument or regret and work through it with a counsellor or a trusted friend instead of replaying it alone.
When this reading may not apply
In a reconciliation question, Judgment's resurrection imagery tempts a hopeful reading that the old relationship returns as it was; with Strength the more useful reading is personal: the querent gains the steadiness to forgive and move on, and any reunion would need both people to change. If Judgment keeps turning up across several readings, the pair points to a decision the querent already knows they must make, and Strength describes how ready they feel to make it. When Strength is the significator, Judgment describes the moment the querent is facing, and their own temperament is the part they control. In a past position, the pair often marks a reckoning that has already happened, and the present cards show whether its lesson stuck.
