Venus Opposite Midheaven
Venus opposite the Midheaven is Venus conjunct the IC, at the base of the chart where home, family and roots sit. Affection and taste belong to the private world first, and a public career has to find its place beside them. The tradition counts Venus at the IC as a comfortable placement for home and inheritance.
A heart and a sense of beauty rooted at home, with a public life balanced against them.

Venus at the base of the chart
An opposition joins points 180° apart, six signs away, in signs of the same polarity. This chart counts it within 8°. Classical authors read it as an aspect of polarity: two sides that face each other and seek balance. Venus stands opposite the Midheaven, which puts her on the IC, the point beneath the earth that stands for roots, ancestry, home and the private self. The Empress, her card, belongs here, in her own garden.
An opposition to the Midheaven is a conjunction to the IC. Venus never strays more than about 47° from the Sun, so the Sun was low in the sky as well: you were born at night, within some hours of midnight. That makes this a night chart, and Venus belongs to the night sect, so she is in sect here and acts at full strength. The angles move about a degree every four minutes, and an 8° orb is about half an hour either side. The aspect needs an accurate birth time.
How Venus colours roots and vocation
At the IC end, Venus is at home. Warmth, affection and taste were part of the early environment, in a family that valued comfort, beauty, food or music, or in a home whose lack of those things made you value them. A house, a garden or a family table is often a source of pleasure, and property and inheritance are traditional themes.
At the Midheaven end, the opposite point, the public career is further from where Venus lives. Vocation may be shaped by what you learned at home, and you may be reluctant to put ambition ahead of the people you love. The task is to give the career a place without sacrificing the base.
Venus opposite Midheaven in love
In love, home is where affection lives. You tend to put effort into a house, a meal and a shared routine, and you express love by making a place feel good. A partner who values home life and who shares your sense of comfort suits you.
The caution is that a comfortable home can become a reason not to venture out. Compatibility grows with partners who encourage your work, and who also come home to you. Family expectations may enter the relationship, so ask what you inherited and what is yours to keep.
Work from a stable base
As tendencies, the placement suits work connected to home and comfort: interior design, real estate, hospitality, food, gardening, the arts practised at home, family businesses, counselling and care. Working from home, or close to it, often suits.
The risk is a career held in reserve. Public recognition takes some choice to pursue, since it does not arrive without one. Put the work in front of people on a schedule, and use the stability of home as a platform and not a hiding place.
Taking the roots out into the world
The task of an opposition is balance. Name one piece of work that belongs to the world outside and give it regular time. Keep what makes the home good, and let it feed what you do outside.
The Empress is rooted and abundant. She does not leave the garden, and what she grows goes out to feed others. The opposition suggests you do the same.
Questions to reflect on
- What did my home give me that I still look for?
- What would I do in public if I were sure my base was safe?
- Which family expectations have I taken for my own wishes?
- How do I carry what is good about home into my work?
