Ace of Wands

Rider–Waite–Smith Tarot
Ace of Wands

A hand reaches out of a cloud holding a living staff, leaves still sprouting from the wood, a castle on the far hill and a river winding below. The Ace of Wands is the spark at the start of something: an idea, a project, an urge to act with real energy behind it. This week favours beginnings. If a proposal arrives, take it seriously. If an idea has been waiting for permission, this is it. The energy is likely to run strongest early on, so put it into motion before routine fills the days. Do the first concrete thing: write the outline, make the call, register the name. Enthusiasm is worth more once it has a task. Take a reasonable risk, and keep feeding the fire with small actions as the week goes on.

For your star sign

The same reading, taken through each sign of the zodiac.

Aries

This card is your element in its purest form, the first spark. The Ace of Wands asks you to start the thing this week, not just announce it. Your energy runs strongest at the opening, so put it into real work early.

Taurus

You are slow to begin and excellent at continuing. The Ace of Wands asks for the beginning this week. Take one step on the new idea before you feel fully ready. Your persistence can handle the rest.

Gemini

Ideas reach you constantly, and this one has more fire than most. The Ace of Wands asks you to choose it over the others this week and give it a first draft.

Cancer

A new creative urge may surprise you. The Ace of Wands asks you to protect it like a young shoot, then let it grow. Start it in private if you prefer, but start it this week.

Leo

The Ace of Wands is creative fire, and you have plenty. This week, put it into a project rather than a performance. Begin something that will still matter to you once the applause is over.

Virgo

You may want a complete plan before you begin. The Ace of Wands says the spark will not wait for one. Start with a rough version this week and refine it once it exists.

Libra

Waiting for someone else to confirm the idea is a habit worth breaking here. The Ace of Wands asks you to trust the spark on your own. Begin this week, and invite feedback once it is under way.

Scorpio

Your passion runs deep and your new ventures tend to be serious ones. The Ace of Wands brings one this week. Commit to the first step with your usual intensity, and keep it going quietly.

Sagittarius

New adventures are your speciality, and this card hands you one. The Ace of Wands asks you to aim it this week. Choose one direction for the energy so it travels far instead of scattering.

Capricorn

You may treat a new spark as a distraction from the plan. The Ace of Wands suggests it might be the better plan. Give the idea a trial this week and measure the results honestly.

Aquarius

An original idea is trying to get your attention. The Ace of Wands asks you to act on it this week, even in a small way. Inspiration you test tends to outlast inspiration you only discuss.

Pisces

Inspiration comes easily to you, and this week it has a sharper edge. The Ace of Wands asks you to give it form: a page, a sketch, a first conversation. Let the spark become something you can hold.

For your Chinese animal

The same reading, taken through each animal of the Chinese zodiac.

Rat

You spot opportunities early, and the Ace of Wands brings a good one this week. Move on it quickly, before you talk yourself into waiting.

Ox

Beginnings are not your favourite part, but the Ace of Wands asks for one this week. Take the first step, and let your endurance do the rest.

Tiger

This is your kind of energy, bold and fresh. The Ace of Wands asks you to put it into one project this week and carry it past the first rush.

Rabbit

A new idea may feel risky to you. The Ace of Wands suggests the risk is a reasonable one. Start small and quietly this week, and let confidence grow with it.

Dragon

You love a grand beginning, and the Ace of Wands brings one. This week, make sure the first step is practical as well as impressive.

Snake

You usually wait for the perfect moment. The Ace of Wands says this week is close enough. Begin the venture you have been planning in private.

Horse

Fresh energy suits you perfectly. The Ace of Wands asks you to choose where to run with it this week, and then to keep running.

Goat

Creative work is where you shine, and the Ace of Wands sparks something new this week. Give it time and gentle attention, and it may grow quickly.

Monkey

You have more ideas than time. The Ace of Wands points at one of them this week. Start that one, and let the others wait their turn.

Rooster

You may want everything prepared before you begin. The Ace of Wands asks for a start this week, even if the preparation is incomplete.

Dog

You often put other people's projects first. The Ace of Wands asks you to begin one of your own this week. Your enthusiasm deserves its own outlet.

Pig

New pleasures and new ventures appeal to you alike. The Ace of Wands brings a fresh one this week. Commit to it beyond the first enjoyable days.
