A rune from each of the four scripts

This is an archived reading, kept as it was published.

Tiwaz is Týr, the god who put his hand in the wolf's mouth so the binding would hold and lost it. The rune is justice that costs the person delivering it. Today there is a right thing to do and it has a price attached, and the price is yours. Do not look for the version where it is free. Pay it once, cleanly, and the binding holds. Pay it grudgingly and you will be asked for the hand again next week.

Týr gave his hand so the binding would hold. Today asks a small version of the same trade: something costs you up front in order to make a later thing dependable. Keep the inconvenient agreement, say the true thing in the room where the lie is easier. None of it is rewarded today. That is what makes it work. The binding it makes is what next month stands on.

Tir in the English poem is a star, a sign that keeps faith with nobles, always on its course over the night's mists and never failing. The god has gone out of the letter and what remains is the one fixed thing in the sky. Today, be that for somebody. Not the hero, not the judge: the point that does not move, which lets everyone else find their way in the dark. Constancy is the whole instruction.

Dair is the oak: the best material available, and the skill that deserves to work it. Today something of genuine quality is in your hands, and oak punishes haste. Take the time the material is worth. What is made carelessly out of good wood is a worse outcome than anything made carefully out of poor. Ask who else has worked material this good, and what they wish they had known first. Oak also keeps: nothing about this needs finishing today.

For your star sign

The same reading, taken through each sign of the zodiac.

Aries

Týr gave his hand so the binding would hold. Something costs you up front today in order to make a later thing dependable.

Taurus

Justice that costs the person delivering it. Keep the agreement that has become inconvenient; that is the whole rune.

Gemini

A price paid now so something holds afterwards. Say the true thing in the room where the lie would be easier.

Cancer

Something right and expensive. Protecting somebody today will cost you and will hold. Tend it rather than worrying at it.

Leo

Justice without an audience or a reward. Do it anyway; Týr is not a rune of victory.

Virgo

A standard held when nobody is checking. That is the version of this rune available today. Check it improves the work, not the record.

Libra

Justice that costs you rather than balances out. Fairness here is paid for, not arranged. State your own position once, plainly.

Scorpio

A price paid up front to make a binding hold. You understand this rune better than most; act on it.

Sagittarius

Something right and inconvenient. Do it rather than finding the version that costs nothing. Choose the direction before the speed.

Capricorn

An agreement kept past the point of convenience. That is what the following years are built on. Decide where it ends before you begin.

Aquarius

A principle upheld at your own expense rather than argued for. Today it is the doing rather than the case.

Pisces

Something right and costly, and you will pay more than asked. Pay what is owed and no more.

For your Chinese animal

The same reading, taken through each animal of the Chinese zodiac.

Rat

A price paid up front so something later holds. Pay it deliberately rather than reluctantly. Take the opening and leave the surplus.

Ox

An agreement kept after it stopped being convenient. That is your competence exactly. Steady beats sudden here. That is what later years stand on.

Tiger

Something right and expensive. Do it once, properly, and do not seek credit for it. Once, deliberately, and then stop.

Rabbit

Protecting somebody today costs you something real. It will hold, which is the point. Silence will be read as consent.

Dragon

Justice with no audience. Do it anyway; this rune has no ceremony attached. Set the direction and delegate the rest.

Snake

A standard held where nobody is checking. You will know, and that is the whole mechanism. Consider whether it is more useful said.

Horse

Something right and inconvenient, and you will want it over with. Do it properly rather than quickly. Pick one before the energy picks for you.

Goat

Something costly and correct. You will pay it and then carry the cost quietly; put it down afterwards.

Monkey

Something right that cannot be arranged more cheaply. Pay it. Ask whether it needs solving at all. No cheaper version exists here.

Rooster

An agreement kept past convenience. Record it for yourself; nobody else will mark it. Narrower question, not a firmer one.

Dog

A principle upheld at your own expense. Today it is the act rather than the argument. Aim it at what actually happened.

Pig

Something right and costly, and you will overpay. Pay what is owed and stop there. Notice who is asking, and how often.
