Runes: 2026

A rune from each of the four scripts

Jera is the year itself: the return that arrives on its own schedule rather than yours. Whatever you planted, 2026 is when some of it comes in, and the rune is precise about the terms. Harvest is not a reward for wanting it and it cannot be brought forward by effort or by deserving. The work was done in a season that is already finished. This year is the one where you find out what that work actually was. Expect the timing to be inconvenient at least once, expect the yield to differ from the forecast, and expect the whole thing to make more sense in retrospect than it does while it is happening. The one thing Jera asks of you is that you are still there when it ripens, which sounds easy and is the part most people fail. Stay in the field.

Ár is a good year: abundance that arrives on the season's schedule and is then shared out. The whole rune is in that second half. 2026 brings something in, and what you do with it in the first week of having it will matter more than the size of it. A harvest hoarded rots and a harvest distributed makes the next one easier to bring in, because the people who help you with it are the people who ate last time. Expect the arrival to be unhurried and slightly later than the forecast. Ár has no interest in your timetable and no interest in whether you deserved it either, which cuts both ways and is worth remembering in a difficult month. Decide the shares early, while the harvest is still theoretical and generosity is cheap, rather than in December when it has become yours.

Ger is the good season: the earth bringing forth bright fruits for rich and poor alike. A return that arrives on the season's schedule and does not check who deserved it. 2026 gives something back, and the rune is precise that the giving is impersonal. What ripens this year was planted in a season already closed, which means the year's real work is not harvesting but sowing for a return you will not see until later. Expect the arrival to be unhurried and slightly off your forecast. Expect also to be tempted to read the yield as a verdict on your worth, in either direction, and to be wrong both times. The earth is not assessing you. It is simply doing the year. Sow in the months where nothing appears to be happening. That is the whole of the year's actual work, and none of it will look like work at the time.

Edad is a letter whose meaning is genuinely lost: a name that exists because the pattern required one. The Ogham tract lists it and the kennings say almost nothing. That is the reading for 2026, and it is a real one rather than a shrug. Some of this year will have a shape you cannot interpret while you are inside it, and the honest response is to record it rather than to invent a meaning that makes it comfortable. The scribes kept Edad in the alphabet without knowing what it was, which is a better model than most. Keep going through the parts of the year you cannot read. The pattern needed the letter even when nobody could say why, and that turned out to be sufficient reason to preserve it. Write down the parts you cannot read, with dates on them, and look again in a year. Some of it will make sense in 2028 and some of it never will, and both are acceptable outcomes.

For your star sign

The same reading, taken through each sign of the zodiac.

Aries

The year turning: a return arriving on its own schedule rather than yours. Nothing here responds to being hurried.

Taurus

Harvest for something planted in a season already finished. Your patience is being paid today. Hold the pace you can keep all week.

Gemini

A return you cannot accelerate and did not decide the timing of. Be present for it rather than early.

Cancer

Something planted long ago comes in. Be ready to receive it and to put it somewhere. Tend it rather than worrying at it.

Leo

The return arrives impersonally, without checking who deserved it. Take it without needing it to mean something about you.

Virgo

A yield whose timing you did not set. Prepare the storage rather than adjusting the schedule. Check it improves the work, not the record.

Libra

Something comes back to you in proportion to what went in. That balance is not yours to adjust today.

Scorpio

The return is real and its timing is not negotiable. Wait for it without reading the delay as refusal.

Sagittarius

A harvest you cannot hurry, which will frustrate you. It comes when it comes. Choose the direction before the speed.

Capricorn

The return on a season already closed. This is what the patience was for; collect it properly. Decide where it ends before you begin.

Aquarius

An impersonal return, indifferent to merit. Take it and skip the analysis of whether it was fair. Deal with the person, not the principle.

Pisces

Something planted comes back changed. Receive it rather than measuring it against what you sowed. Put it in words somebody can answer.

For your Chinese animal

The same reading, taken through each animal of the Chinese zodiac.

Rat

A return arriving on its own schedule. Have somewhere ready to put it rather than hurrying it in.

Ox

Harvest for a season's patience, which is your whole method. This is the day it pays. Steady beats sudden here.

Tiger

A return you cannot accelerate. Wait, which is the instrument you have least of. Once, deliberately, and then stop.

Rabbit

Something comes back to the household. Receive it properly and share it out early. Silence will be read as consent.

Dragon

A return that arrives without ceremony. Take it plainly; the ceremony is not part of the rune. Set the direction and delegate the rest.

Snake

A yield whose timing you predicted and cannot change. Be there when it lands. Consider whether it is more useful said.

Horse

Something returns and you will already be elsewhere. Stay for the harvest you planted. Pick one before the energy picks for you.

Goat

A return arrives and you will feel it was owed to somebody else. It is yours; take it.

Monkey

A harvest that cannot be hurried by cleverness. Wait it out. Ask whether it needs solving at all.

Rooster

The return on long work. Collect it properly and record what actually produced it. Narrower question, not a firmer one.

Dog

A return arrives impersonally. Take your share without adjudicating the fairness of everybody else's. Aim it at what actually happened.

Pig

Something planted comes back. Receive it and let some of it go to the people who helped. Notice who is asking, and how often.
