Deniz Aksoy
“Cards aren't ink. Let's see what you want to keep.”
I tattoo moons and constellations on people in Kreuzberg, and I read their charts and cards while the stencil sets. Bring your birth date and the question you're scared to say out loud.

Their story
Deniz Aksoy grew up in Karşıyaka, across the bay from İzmir's seafront, in a family where a blue nazar bead hung over every door and a grandmother read coffee cups after Sunday lunch. Deniz never took to the cups. At fourteen they found a free birth-chart website and started copying chart wheels into their school notebooks, and at eighteen they were sweeping floors in a tattoo shop in Alsancak while studying graphic arts.
Tarot arrived through the needle. In 2020 a client asked for The Star as a tattoo, and Deniz bought a Rider–Waite deck to get the drawing right, then kept reading the rest of it. They moved to Berlin in 2021 for a guest spot at a Kreuzberg studio that became a permanent chair, and these days they do fine-line moons and constellations by day and readings in between.
Deniz starts with your chart and uses the cards to talk about what's happening now. Their readings are quick, funny and queer-friendly. When the question is about love, they look at compatibility and at what you want, never at what someone else will be made to do.
Turning points
-
2014
Cast their first birth chart online and redrew the wheel by hand in a maths notebook.
-
2018
Started university and took a part-time job at a tattoo shop in Alsancak. Did their own first tattoo, a crescent moon on the left wrist, and says it shows.
-
2020
Tattooed The Star for a client and bought the deck that came with the job.
-
2021
Moved to Berlin for a three-month guest spot at a Kreuzberg studio. The guest spot became a permanent chair.
-
2024
Began offering chart-and-cards readings to clients waiting for their stencil, then to people who never wanted a tattoo at all.
How they read
- Approach
- Astrology for the map, tarot for the moment. They look at your chart first and use the cards to talk about what is happening right now.
- On the future
- Reflective. Your chart is the skin you came with; what you put on it is up to you.
- Decks
- Rider–Waite (their working deck, the one bought for The Star tattoo); Their own fine-line deck (drawing one card a month since 2022, not finished yet)
- Reversed cards
- Yes. A reversed card is a line that hasn't healed yet: it's there, it's still sore.
- Before a reading
- Checks which sign the Moon is in, pours a tulip glass of black tea, and cuts the deck into three piles with the left hand, the one that never holds the machine.
- Also works with
- Tarot, Astrology
