Gebo is a gift and the obligation that arrives with it, tied in the same knot. Something is offered today, or you offer it. Neither is free. Be clear with yourself about what is being exchanged, because the difficulty with gifts is never the giving, it is the unspoken ledger afterwards. Accept plainly or decline plainly, and say which. Say which one it is out loud, and the ledger never has to be opened. A gift declined cleanly costs less than one accepted with reservations.

Ár is a good season: abundance that arrives on its own schedule and is then shared out. Something comes in today and the second half of the rune is the part that matters. Decide quickly what portion of it moves on to somebody else, because that decision is easy now and awkward once you have got used to holding the whole of it.

Gyfu is a gift, and the poem ties it to those who have nothing else: generosity is honour and support, and to the dispossessed it is substance itself. Today something is given, by you or to you. Take it plainly or give it plainly. What spoils a gift is the ledger opened quietly afterwards on either side.

Coll is the hazel: concentrated nourishment, and the knowledge that comes packed inside it. Today the useful thing is dense rather than large. One conversation, one page, one piece of advice from somebody who has done it. Crack it open properly instead of gathering more. What you need today is small, hard-shelled and already within reach.
