Futhorc

Calc was cut because Cen had gone soft. Palatalisation pulled Old English /k/ toward the sound in church, so somebody made a second letter to hold the hard one, and cared enough about it to carve it on the Ruthwell Cross. Today, keep a distinction that is collapsing. A word of yours, or a role, is being asked to cover two things at once and has stopped doing either cleanly. Split it while splitting is still cheap. The name itself is unsettled, argued between a chalice, chalk and a shoe, so take nothing from the name and everything from the reason it exists.
