Modesty

This is the hardest one for you and the most rewarding. Expect an opportunity to claim more credit than is yours, and expect declining it to be worth more than taking it.

I Ching: This year

Hexagram 15 is the mountain inside the earth: great height that does not announce itself. It is the only hexagram in the classic with no unfavourable lines anywhere, which is worth knowing when it lands on a year. The text says the noble person carries things through to the end, and that ending well is the whole point. 2026 rewards the version of you that does not need to be seen doing it. That is not self-effacement and it is not modesty as performance, which the classic would recognise as its opposite. It is the practical business of reducing what is excessive and adding to what is insufficient, quietly, over twelve months, in situations where nobody is auditing your contribution. Expect the year to give you at least one opportunity to claim more credit than is strictly yours, and expect declining it to be worth more than taking it.

Choose a stretch of time

Today

Wednesday, October 28

Difficulty at the Beginning

You will want to push through it grandly and alone. The text says appoint helpers, which for you is the whole lesson of this hexagram.

Tomorrow

Thursday, October 29

Biting Through

Deal with it directly and without an audience. The text asks for justice done rather than justice demonstrated.

This week

Week of Monday, October 26

The Gentle

Repeating yourself feels like diminishment. Today it is the mechanism. Say the instruction a second time, plainly, and it becomes established rather than performed.

Next week

Week of Monday, November 2

The Army

You want to lead the army and the hexagram asks whether you are seasoned. If not, today is for being generous to the people, which is how the following is built before the command.

Inner Truth

People will sense the gap between the performance and the feeling without being able to name it. Close the gap rather than improving the performance.

Choose an oracle

Each one is read a different way. The tarot draws, the Chinese zodiac calculates.

Six of Wands

Tarot

Six of Wands

This is your card and your year, so the only real advice is about what comes after. Recognition changes what people expect next. Decide deliberately what you want to carry forward rather than accepting whatever the applause hands you.

Runes

Jera

The return arrives impersonally, without checking who deserved it. Take it without needing it to mean something about you.

Numerology

Number 1

A 1 is your natural key, but it wants the act rather than the audience. Begin before anyone is watching. The version of this you announce first tends to be the version you never finish.

Western zodiac

One sign along. A small correction to how you are coming across, which is easier now than after. Small corrections are cheap now and expensive later.
