Standstill

Hexagram 12 is Peace inverted: heaven rises, earth sinks, and communication between them stops. It is the hexagram of a blocked and dishonest time, and its Judgment is the one that tells the noble person their steadfastness will not pay. The conditions are wrong, not the effort. The great departs and the small arrives. The Image counsels becoming small: withdraw into frugal virtue, and refuse the salary. Today, if you are pushing against something that will not move, stop pushing and check the ground. Accepting a position, a favour or a payment in a wrong time ties you to it. Be small, unpaid and elsewhere until the ground changes.

For your star sign

The same reading, taken through each sign of the zodiac.

Aries

You will push harder against the standstill. The Judgment says persistence does not pay today. Stop pushing, become small, and wait for heaven and earth to meet again.

Taurus

You will hold your position through the blockage. Today the position is the problem. Withdraw into frugal virtue, as the Image says, and let the wrong time pass without you in it.

Gemini

You will talk across the gap between heaven and earth. Nothing crosses it today. Say less, accept no favours, and be somewhere else when the small ones arrive.

Cancer

The standstill feels like rejection and it is weather. Today withdraw without wounding. The conditions are wrong, not you, and frugal virtue is the shelter.

Leo

You will be offered an honour in a corrupt time. Refuse it. The Image is specific: do not let yourself be paid by a period you should not be tied to.

Virgo

You will try to fix the standstill by working harder. The Judgment says it will not pay. Today do less, be small, and keep your effort for a day when the ground holds it.

Libra

You will seek a compromise with the blocked time. There is none. Today the great departs and the small arrives, and your part is to withdraw rather than to mediate.

Scorpio

You recognise a dishonest time faster than anyone. Today act on the recognition: become small, take nothing, and let the wrong people have the salary.

Sagittarius

You will leave, which today is correct. Leave quietly and unpaid. The hexagram's withdrawal is into frugal virtue, not into a better offer elsewhere.

Capricorn

You will accept the position because it is offered and positions are what you build with. Not this one. Today the salary ties you to the standstill, and the Image says refuse it.

Aquarius

You will critique the blocked system. Today do not engage it at all. Withdrawal is the counsel, and the critique is a form of staying in the room.

Pisces

You will dissolve into the standstill and call it patience. Today be small on purpose. Frugal virtue has a shape, and the shape is you, elsewhere, taking nothing.

For your Chinese animal

The same reading, taken through each animal of the Chinese zodiac.

Rat

You will look for the advantage in a blocked time. There is none, and the small ones who arrive are taking whatever is on offer. Today take nothing and be small on purpose.

Ox

You will stand in the standstill and endure it. Today endurance is not the counsel. Withdraw, frugally, and let heaven and earth separate without you between them.

Tiger

You will attack the blockage. The Judgment says steadfastness does not pay today. Save the force for a day with conditions, and withdraw from this one.

Rabbit

Withdrawal is your native move and today the hexagram endorses it fully. Be small, take no favour, and wait. The wrong time passes faster for those not standing in it.

Dragon

You will accept the honour because you are owed it. Today the honour is the trap. The Image forbids the salary in a corrupt period, and you are being offered one.

Snake

You see the dishonest time and stay to watch it. Today leave. Watching from inside ties you to the standstill, and frugal virtue is elsewhere.

Horse

You will bolt from the blocked time, which is right, and take the first offer on the road, which is not. Today leave unpaid. The salary follows you back in.

Goat

You will ask someone whether to stay. The hexagram has answered: withdraw. Today, be small, accept no favour, and let the standstill be somebody else's to stand in.

Monkey

You will find the standstill interesting and stay to study it. Today the study is participation. Withdraw into frugal virtue and be curious somewhere the ground is not wrong.

Rooster

You will correct the blocked time. It cannot be corrected today; it is the conditions. Withdraw, take nothing, and keep the standards for when they can be applied.

Dog

You will stay in the standstill out of loyalty to someone in it. Today ask whether they need you inside it or waiting outside. The Image says outside, unpaid.

Pig

You will accept the salary because it is comfortable. Today comfort ties you to the wrong time. Be frugal, be small, and the comfort returns when heaven and earth do.
