Second layer

The emotional body

Described as cloudlike and coloured, moving and changing faster than the layer beneath it. In this model it carries how a person feels about themselves rather than about anyone else.

What is described

Where the etheric is drawn as structure, the emotional layer is drawn as weather: colours that shift, darken and clear. Practitioners report it changing within minutes as mood changes, which makes it the layer most often used to demonstrate the model to a sceptic.

The colour vocabulary here is where most popular aura reading happens, and it is also where accounts disagree most between observers.

Self, not others

The distinction this model draws is between feeling about oneself, which belongs here, and feeling directed at another person, which belongs to the astral layer at the fourth position. It is a fine distinction and a useful one: self-disgust and grief for someone else are not the same operation.

The pairing with svadhisthana follows the same logic, since that centre governs appetite and personal feeling rather than relationship.
