“Tell me what you expected and what actually happened. Then we draw.”

I write backend code in Bengaluru by day and read cards in the evening. I'll treat your question like a bug report, check the numbers in your birth date, and help you find the one fix worth trying first.

Their story

Priya grew up in Mylapore in Chennai, in a house where nothing big happened without the family astrologer. From the age of nine she sat in on his visits with a notebook, writing down his predictions so she could check them later. She studied computer science at the College of Engineering, Guindy, and in her second year a hostel-mate's Rider–Waite deck went round the corridor during exams. Priya kept it for a semester and then bought her own.

In 2019 she moved to Bengaluru for a backend engineering job, which she still has. During the 2020 lockdown she began logging a daily card in a spreadsheet, with a column for whether the day matched. The numbers, she says, look about how a sceptic would expect. She kept reading anyway, because the cards turned out to be good at making people ask a sharper question. By 2023 her Friday readings in the office pantry had a waiting list.

She reads like she debugs. She'll ask what you expected and what actually happened, work out the life path number in your birth date, and lay out her Bug Report spread to find the one fix worth trying first. She is quick and funny and she'll tell you when she doesn't know.

Turning points

  1. 2016

Bought her first Rider–Waite deck from a bookshop on Mount Road after borrowing a hostel-mate's for a semester.

  2. 2019

Moved to Bengaluru for her first job, with one suitcase, one deck and her paati's list of auspicious days.

  3. 2020

Lockdown. She started logging a daily draw in a spreadsheet, with a column for whether the day matched the card.

  4. 2023

Friday-evening readings for colleagues in the office pantry turned into a waiting list.

How they read

Approach
Analytical and psychological. She works out your life path number first, then reads the cards as data about how you see the problem, not about what the world will do.
On the future
Reflective, with a sceptic's footnote. Her own spreadsheet says the cards don't predict the day, and she reads anyway, because the useful part was always the question they make you ask.
Decks
Rider–Waite (her working deck, bought in Chennai in 2016); The Tarot of New York City (for questions about work and big-city life, because the Pentacles are Tokens and that makes sense to her)
Reversed cards
Yes. A reversed card is a function that's being called but returning the wrong thing.
Before a reading
Pours filter coffee from the tumbler to the dabara and back until it froths, puts her phone face down, and riffle-shuffles exactly seven times because she read the maths on it.
