Fehu is cattle: wealth that walks, and can walk away. Today it points at whatever you own that needs feeding, whether that is money, a possession, a commitment or a reputation. None of it is passive. Ask what your holdings are costing you in upkeep, and whether the answer is still worth it. Something you count as an asset may quietly have become livestock.
Runes: Sunday, August 30
A rune from each of the four scripts
This is an archived reading, kept as it was published.
Fé is wealth, and the Icelandic poem is blunt about what it does: money is the strife of kinsmen. Today the resource itself is not the problem. What it does between people is. If there is a sum, a share or an inheritance in play, handle it in the open and in writing. The rune's whole warning is that the quarrel arrives through the money rather than because of it.
Feoh is cattle and money, and the Anglo-Saxon poem adds the condition: wealth is a comfort to all, but a man must deal it out freely if he wants honour. Today whatever you hold is held on the terms that it keeps moving. Spend some of it, share some of it, put some of it to work. Wealth that only accumulates stops being wealth and becomes storage.
Beithe is the birch: the first thing back on cleared ground and conspicuous about it. Today something new is visible before it is established, which attracts attention it has not earned yet. Let it be early rather than impressive. Describing a beginning as further along than it is costs you the room to change it.
For your star sign
The same reading, taken through each sign of the zodiac.
Aries
Cattle walk away if unattended. Whatever you own that needs feeding will need it today, and your instinct is to acquire rather than tend.
Taurus
Wealth is your comfort and Fehu is about upkeep rather than accumulation. Something you hold is quietly costing you more than it returns.
Gemini
Movable wealth means it can move away from you. Check what has quietly left while you were interested in something else.
Cancer
Fehu is the household's livestock: what feeds people rather than what impresses them. Look at what your resources are actually keeping alive.
Leo
Wealth is a comfort to all, says the poem, and a man must deal it out freely for honour. Spend some of it visibly and some of it not.
Virgo
Something you count as an asset has become livestock: it eats, it needs watching, and it may not be earning. Audit one holding today.
Libra
Fehu is wealth in motion. Something needs spending or lending rather than balancing. Move it rather than weighing it further.
Scorpio
Money is the strife of kinsmen in the Icelandic poem. Whatever is shared today should be settled in the open rather than assumed.
Sagittarius
Wealth that walks suits you and so does letting it. Just notice what you are feeding out of habit rather than intent.
Capricorn
You built the herd. Fehu asks what it costs to keep, which is the question you skip when the total is still rising.
Aquarius
Fehu is property and you find property faintly beside the point. It still needs tending, and today the tending falls to you.
Pisces
Something is being given away that should be counted first. Generosity is fine; unrecorded generosity becomes a grievance later.
For your Chinese animal
The same reading, taken through each animal of the Chinese zodiac.
Rat
Fehu is your instinct in a letter: gather, keep, say little. The rune adds the cost of keeping, which is the part you discount.
Ox
Cattle need feeding daily and you are the one who feeds them. Check that what you hold still earns what it takes.
Tiger
You will spend it before you have counted it. Fehu asks for the count first, briefly, and then spend.
Rabbit
Wealth that walks makes you anxious. Secure one thing today rather than watching all of it. Silence will be read as consent.
Dragon
Deal it out freely for honour, says the poem, which is your natural mode. Keep enough to feed the herd through winter.
Snake
You will hold it and say nothing. Fehu is wealth in motion; something needs moving rather than concealing.
Horse
You will spend it on the journey rather than the herd. One of those returns and one does not.
Goat
You will give it away to whoever asks first. Decide the amount before the asking starts. Ask before you are emptied.
Monkey
You will trade it cleverly and lose track of the total. Count once today. Ask whether it needs solving at all.
Rooster
You will account for it precisely and forget to use any. Fehu is for spending as well as recording.
Dog
You will guard it for somebody else's benefit. Check they still need guarding. Aim it at what actually happened.
Pig
You will feed everybody from it and keep nothing back. Keep the breeding stock. Notice who is asking, and how often.
